Centre for Research, Traingin and Publications (CRTP) in collaboration with the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) in Kakamega Diocese recently completed the exercise of planting 3000 trees under Nurturing Environmental Equity through Mining and Advocacy (NEEMA) Project to recover and detoxicate land destroyed by informal gold mining in Kakamega. The community groups which participated in the tree planting exercise were Lurhambi Artisanal and Small Scale Miners, Kakamega Women Miners Cooperative and Kakamega Central Mining Cooperative. This adds to CRTP activities in community environmental recovery and advocacy in extractive industry carried out in Kwale and Migori for the last 3 years. We thank God for the community commitment to the Laudato Si spirit!
