The Centre for Research, Training and Publication (CRTP) held an Environmental Advocacy Training on 11th and 12th September 2025 in Migori, bringing together 30 participants from four community groups the Centre has been working with in implementing the project  as well as representatives from the Kenya State Department for Mining, Migori County and the Kenya Forest Association. Facilitated by Dr. Michael Owiso, the sessions covered Environmental Justice, Human Rights, and Rights-Based Advocacy, complemented by group discussions. On 12th September, Prof. Elias Opongo and Ms. Lilian Melino conducted an impact assessment interview with group representatives, who highlighted positive outcomes from tree-planting initiatives, including improved local weather patterns and increased household income from seedling sales. The Nyatike Community Forest Association particularly commended the tree-planting efforts, noting that the region now experiences more reliable rainfall, with rains occurring twice a year compared to previous unpredictable patterns.
